in order for P4 to maintain a safe, comfortable environment, we require all pets to be current on their rabies vaccinations and to wait at least 48 hours after any vaccinations before checking in.  Proof of rabies vaccination in the form of paperwork or License Tag is required.  The waiting period helps to ensure your pets isn’t sore at the injection site, which can cause irritability or lethargy.  This waiting period also is to prevent stressing a pet who may be experiencing an unexpected allergic reaction from a vaccine/vaccination.  Puppies between 8 weeks and 4 months of age may receive services in the salon without vaccinations.   P4 follows all State laws and Requirements for all pet’s health.

P4 will never sedate a dog or accept a dog that has been sedated.   If your dog has been known to have a strong behavioral reaction to grooming or bathing, please advise us when making the appointment and when dropping off.  If a pet is truly uncooperative or made uncomfortable by the process, we might end the session-but we will never sedate your pet.

How can I be sure I am getting the best services provided?

At P4, we will have a certified safety associated on hand who will do a hands-on assessment to address your pets needs before your dog is taken back to be bath and groomed.   The assessment will include your pet’s skin, coat, ears, nails, and teeth so both salon tech and pet owner know the pet’s condition at the time of service.

The associate also looks for:

  • Lethargy
  • Excessive panting
  • Excessive drooling
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Redness in eyes
  • Resistance to entering salon or going to caging area

If your pet is showing any of these behaviors or multiple behaviors, we will not be able to perform services at that time.  Pet owners are given at this time the opportunity to stay with their pets to see if after 15 minutes this behavior passes.  If the behavior does not, we will gladly reschedule the appointment for a less busy time or recommend a veterinarian who can assist getting your dog ready for service.

Do you offer service for dogs not needing grooming?

Yes, you will still need an appointment for these services, just call the salon that day to make sure there is an open time to come in.  Dogs needing to only have their nail tips trim (takes about 15 minutes depending on breed and size of dog), teeth cleaning (take about 1 hour to 2 hours depending on breed and size of dog), nails polished (takes about 30 to 1 hour depending on breed of and size of dog).   This keeps pet owners and pets from having a long wait to be seen.

Do I need to prepare my pet for grooming?

  • Know all your pet’s triggers: because a salon can be loud and noisy can cause stress in some pets. For example, some pets are nervous or anxious when they see or are around other dogs.  Some dog cannot stand to be exposed to loud noises, like sirens, music, even other dogs barking.  When you notice these things its good to write it down so you can inform your salon when your dog is getting groomed.  Communicate any calming triggers as well with the groomer.
  • Visit your pet’s salon: allow the pet to be with you the first time you come to the salon, upon making your appointment. Give your dog the chance to see where he/she will be coming .   P4 will be happy to schedule a day for you and your pet to take a tour of the salon. (you must bring proof of vaccination with you for tour).   This helps them get use to the activity, smells, and the sounds of the salon.  By touching their feet, and paws in play time with them along with using common household items to introduce them to humming noises of clippers, and nail grinder if available will help them through their grooming process as well.
  • Brining your dog in for grooming every four-to-six weeks can help with slowly losing their anxiety for a bath and will keep your pet clean and healthy. It can allow them to be regularly checked for ticks, fleas, dry skin patches, and or problem with their nail, teeth, ears, and eyes. (?) gives dog’s a feeling of familiarity and peace.
